Such beautiful and classy colours to play with this week at Color My Heart's Color Dare!  I am falling more and more in love with Ivy Lane each and every day ... so when we were asked to use those colours in this week's challenge, I was more than happy to oblige!

Take a look below at my creation ... a beautiful birthday card ... and go to the Color Dare blog to see what the other Design Team gals have come up with.

Here's the birthday card I created for someone special in my life.  I was also inspired by the sketch on the Crafty Canadians' Facebook page.

SUPPLIES:
  • Ivy Lane Green and Ivy Lane Purple cardstock
  • Ivy Lane B&T papers
  • Heartfelt Birthday Wishes stamp M1033
  • Doodle Signs Hostess Reward Stamp A1158
  • Pansy Purple (retired) and Hollyhock ink
  • Black Small Sparkle Flourishes
Now it's your turn!  Create something with the Ivy Lane colours and post it for your chance to WIN!!!  Share your creation on the Color Dare blog.  I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

It's been a slower week for me, which is a refreshing break, but I've had trouble finding my mojo.  Good thing that the Crafty Canadians had this great sketch for a challenge.

The other "catch" to this challenge, as it was first posted just before St. Patrick's Day, is to include the colour GREEN somewhere on the card.

I needed to make some birthday cards and this challenge really helped me out.  Here's the first one:

This card uses the CTMH paper pack "Lollydoodle".  If you saw the whole pack, you'd think Girly Girl, all the way!  But you can also turn it around (or turn it over, as our patterned papers are DOUBLE SIDED!) and use it for boys too.  This adorable card will be finding its way to my sweet nephew Trent, who will be turning THREE on Monday.

SUPPLIES:

  • Pear, Slate and Ivy Lane Purple Cardstock
  • Lollydoodle B&T papers
  • Belated Birthday stamp B1442
  • Pansy Purple ink (retired)
  • Marquee Enamel shapes

And here's a second card to celebrate with:

Of all the cards I made today, I think this one is my favourite.  I love the motion that the stamped arrows create, and the colour combo is unusual but so pretty.  These are Ivy Lane colours and papers and I am falling more and more in love with this paper pack every day.  And I finished it off with an Ivy Lane tulle flower and some purple sparkle gems.  So pretty.

SUPPLIES:
  • Ivy Lane Green and Ivy Lane Purple Cardstock
  • Ivy Lane B&T papers
  • Heartfelt Birthday Wish stamp B1442
  • Flight of the Arrows stamp D1578
  • Pansy Purple ink (retired)
  • Ivy Lane Assortment (flower)
  • Purple Glitter Gems
Thank you for looking!  Please leave some love in the comments.  And if you wish to place an order for these fabulous CTMH products ... or any other CTMH goodies ... simply email me at justscrapit.ctmh@gmail.com or shop online!

Winter simply refuses to leave us here in Ontario, but that doesn't mean we cannot dream of sunshine and warm breezes.  Some days, that's the only thing that helps me cope with the cold!  :)  So this hop is featuring some wonderful projects that have a touch of summer and warmer weather, created by talented members of the Brae'ers CTMH team.

ABOUT THE HOP
  • This is a circular hop so you can start here and go all the way around.

MY PROJECT:
Feeling the sunshine with Picture My Life "Surf's Up"

Every PML kit comes with a cover page to start you off!
I added some stamps and embellishments too!

Almost three years ago, we started a huge project in our backyard -- the installation of an inground pool for our family.  Dubbed "The Great Big Hole Project", this adventure lasted most of the summer, from the installation of the pool itself,to the landscaping, to enjoying, at last, the oasis we created.

The back of the cover page looks just like
it was made up of cards!  Washi tape,
stamped images and more add some pizzazz!

Naturally, I took TONS of photos of this project.  And I wanted to document the adventure in scrapbook form, but it was overwhelming -- so many pictures, so many stages.  So when Picture My Life was introduced, I knew it was the answer I was looking for.  This album took mere HOURS to complete and I'm so happy with how it turned out.

Cards and photos combine to tell your story.  I rounded the corners of my
photos to mirror the shape of the cards.

It's amazing just how many photos you can use and showcase with
a PML kit.  It's really so much fun!

Don't forget to TELL your story.  Journaling cards
are an important part of PML kits
and are so easy to use!

It's not finished yet -- I still have a few more photos to add, and I plan to intermingle some traditional scrapbooking layouts in with the PML pages to make this into a real keepsake for my family.  Long live the Great Big Hole -- I can't wait to get into it again this summer!

It's time for Color My Heart's Color Dare #85 and this week, we're featuring some lovely, warm colours:  Autumn Terracotta, Barn Red, Hollyhock and Olive.  Though I would traditionally think of these colours as more Autumn-ish, the Design Team has done a great job to show that they can be used in such a beautiful variety of ways.

My Project: Flamingo Wall Canvas

This photo was taken at the Metro Toronto Zoo last year when I went with my son's Grade 2 class.  The flamingos were so stunning with their colours just POPPING against the early spring greens and browns.  I feel like the paper colours help the flamingo jump off the page.

Each of these shapes were cut using the fabulous Artbooking and Artiste Cricut cartridges.  They created some great textures that worked perfectly on this canvas.

The stamps were from the Frosted Workshop on the Go.  Again -- this is a great example of how something can be designed for one season, but used for another.

Lastly, I embellished with some green epoxy bubbles.  They add just the right amount of shine to this canvas.

I'm not sure yet where I'm going to hang this but I love how it turned out.

Now it's your turn!  Take these colours and get creative!  Then post it on the Color Dare blog and show off what you made!

This week at ColorMy Heart's Color Dare, we are showcase some very springlike colours with the Skylark paper pack.  It's so bright and pretty -- though you could easily do some boyish stuff with it too!

I chose to do a 1-page layout for this challenge.  It was a great way to use up scraps from my Skylark Workshop on the Go.

The colours are so bright and fresh.  I can't wait to find just the right photos for this page.

Now it's your turn!  Use this colour combo – Lagoon, Sweet Leaf, Juniper and Skylark Yellow – to create something happy, and enter to win at ColorMy Heart's Color Dare!

This week at Color My Heart's Color Dare, we have a soft and warm colour combo to challenge you:  Blush, Sorbet and Juniper.  I love these colours together, and the Design Team has done some wonderful stuff with them!

Here is my card, a birthday card for someone very special.

This card is a combination of new and old.  I used basic cardstock, but added in some B&T from the Chantilly pack (old) and from Lollydoodle (new).  I love how I can combine past and present and know that they will coordinate perfectly!

I also used one of our brand new embossing folders to emboss a Quatrefoil pattern on the Sorbet piece.  I sanded it just a bit to give it some more pop.

The stamp set is a new one:  “Belated Birthday”, which is perfect for me, since I’m forever sending cards late – even though I DO think of you lots on your actual birthday. :)  And I accented with Aqua Dots and Flamingo Dots -- just enough bling to finish it off.

Now it's your turn!  Use this colour combo – Blush, Sorbet and Juniper – to create something special, and enter to win at Color My Heart's Color Dare!

New Idea Book, new products ... it's time for a NEW blog hop!  Welcome to The Brae-er's Team February Blog Hop. As you would expect, this hop is featuring creations using NEW products from our latest and greatest Idea Book.

As you hop along to all the different blogs, you will see creations from our CTMH team showcasing stamp sets, patterned paper, inks, embellishments and more from the Close To My Heart Spring/Summer Idea book, just launched on February 1st!  Thanks in advance for taking the time to hop along.  Now, for the creative stuff you've been waiting for.

This is a circular hop.   If you came from the oh-so-talented Alyson Mayo's "Create with Alyson" blog, you're going in the right direction.  Just keep hopping along and see some amazing artwork.  Soon, you'll make it all the way around to each Brae-er's Team members blog.

Stargazing with Timberline

Timberline is a WONDERFUL paper theme, great for camping and outdoor adventures.  Very rugged, very rustic, very outdoorsy.  But I wanted to show that you can use Timberline for SO MUCH MORE!  So I created this one-page layout, using leftovers from the Timberline WOTG, and added in some Aquadots.  I just love how it turned out.

(And in case you're wondering who that cutie pie in the photo is, it's ME!  My Dad was an amateur photographer, complete with backdrops and dark room, and for my first two years of life, I was his favourite subject)

Keep on Hopping!
Your next stop on the hop is the amazing Rosalynd Kelly's "In my Scrappin' Room" blog.

After looking at each person's stunning creations, please take a moment to leave a comment or two at the bottom.  We really love feedback from our blog viewers....whether it was something that you really liked or some new technique that was used that you would like to learn how to do.  By leaving us comments, we get to hear what you like, and what you want to see.

Thanks for hopping along with us.  I hope you are as excited about the new Idea Book and all of its possibilities as we all are!

I have recently been welcomed into a new Facebook group called the Crafty Canadians.  It's a great place to meet and share things with other gals from across our country.

This month, they announced a layout challenge, and I was happy to play along.

The challenge?  Create a card or layout using this sketch:

And here's what I came up with:

This layout uses papers and embellishments from the brand new Close to my Heart theme, Skylark.  It's a beautiful design that inspires thoughts of spring ... which I can NOT wait for.  And this layout was a great opportunity for me to scrapbook my best friend Barb.  She means the world to me and we have such good times together.

See the bitty bow on the title?  That's from our new Base & Bling collection!  It's great for making necklaces, but can ALSO be used on layouts and cards too.

Want to see more from the new CTMH Spring and Summer Idea Book?  Join me on my Facebook page for my online launch party on Tuesday, February 4 from 7-9 pm, or in-person at my home on Thursday, Feb. 6 from 1-3pm or 7-9pm.  Please RSVP at justscrapit.ctmh@gmail.com

This week at Color My Heart's Color Dare, you have TWO choices of colour combos to challenge you.  The first is Creme Brulee, Goldrush, Olive and Twilight -- nice warm colours during this cold, cold weather.

The other colours are from CTMH's latest promotional kit Cloud 9 -- Lagoon, Sunset and Honey.  This is the one I chose. I like the brightness of the colours -- they made me smile.

Here are my two cards.  They are 4x3, so perfect for just a little note of friendship.

I used the Cloud 9 papers as I've been waiting for the opportunity to play with them all month.  And the adorable little teddy bear stamp is from Pointer's Gifts and Crafts, located in Markham.  They have their own line of stamps with a really fun style.  This teeny tiny bear is just so cute, I couldn't resist him.

Now it's your turn!  Pick a colour combo, create something fun and fabulous, and enter to win at Color My Heart's Color Dare!

I received my first shipment of new product last week and have been playing, playing, playing.  First up to show all of you is the collection of cards I've designed for my "Pick a Wish" card workshop.

PICK A WISH CARD WORKSHOP
Sunday, February 9 at 1:30pm
Make 16 cards (4 each of 4 designs) with sentiments you add later
Plus a File box to keep them in
$30 per person
Add the "Banner Wishes" stamp set for just $10 more
RSVP to justscrapit.ctmh@gmail.com to reserve your spot!

Pick a wish?  What's that?  We'll create 16 cards and prep a variety of sentiments -- but don't glue them on yet!  Keep them in the pocket of your file box and choose the right sentiment when you go to send the card.  This allows you more flexibility and it helps you share your artwork at every occasion!

These cards use the new "Ariana" papers.  I love all of the papers in the new Idea Book, but I'll be honest, at first, this wasn't one of my favourites.  But the more I played with it, the more fun I had and the more beautiful the cards became.  And to keep them versatile for either gender, I added the Artisan Studs -- not too bling-y but still finishes them all off.

I hope you can make it out to my workshop on February 9th.  Come play with new products, great CTMH stamps and me!!  RSVP to reserve your spot today.

This week at Color My Heart, we have a 5-colour challenge for all of you!  This challenge uses: Cranberry, Juniper, Honey, Smokey Plum and Sunset.

And when you see all of the different DT creations at Color My Heart, you'll be amazed not only by the wonderful talents among us, but by how the project takes on a different look and feel, depending on which colour you choose as the dominant one.  I also like the vibrancy of this colour combo and how the creations really pop!

Here's what I made:  Tiny Treat Boxes

These tiny little treat bags were made using CTMH's Artiste Cricut Cartridge, cut at 2.5" on Cranberry cardstock.  They folded together easily!  Then I used the Honeycomb pattern stamp from the "Reel Life" stamp set to incorporate all of the colours in a rainbow-like pattern.  I mounted it on a Sunset strip and then placed it on the front and back of the treat box.  These adorable plaid flowers matched perfectly and provided just the touch of bling that these boxes needed.  Two little chocolate bars or Hershey's nuggets will fit nicely inside.

Now it's your turn!  Get out your inks, stamps and cardstocks and see what you can make using Cranberry, Juniper, Honey, Smokey Plum and Sunset (or similar colours).  Then post your creation at Color My Heart's Color Dare and see if you can win this week's challenge!  Happy Creating!

Today, I say good-bye to a well-loved, well-used, special part of my crafting life.  My trusty Cricut cutting machine, "T.C."  (for Teal Cricut) passed away on Wednesday, after more than 2 years of living and thousands upon thousands of cuts.

It was a hard-working member of my crafting "team" and I will miss it's cheery, bright, colourful-ness sitting on my counter.  T.C., rest in peace in that craft room in the sky.  Thank you for helping me save SO much time cutting for workshops, and for enabling me to maximize my creativity with all that you can do.

Good-bye T.C.  You may be replaced, but you won't ever be forgotten.

CTMH Lagoon Houndstooth Washi tape
Cuttlebug embossing folder
Sandpaper
Clear sparkles

This is something I've wanted to try for some time -- white on white.  How can you make something that's all the same colour have depth and texture and look beautiful?  The answer is layers.

I used White Daisy paper for all of these layers.  I dry embossed the layer with the polka dots, using my Cuttlebug (which I don't use NEARLY as often as I should -- it's so fun!!).  And I heat embossed the snowflake from the "Perfect Fit - Holiday" stamp set with white pigment ink and white embossing powder.  The circle layers added more depth, and the added touch of the white ribbon just added some sparkle.

This was so much fun -- I'll be doing this challenge again and again!

Sunday, December 8, 2013
We're starting our second week of {CTMH} Holiday cards and the challenges are getting harder.  What can you do with triangles?  The obvious answer is: make Christmas trees ... but I wanted to do something different.  When I think of triangles I think of pennants and banners, and it makes me think of sailing and all things nautical.  I have always had a passion for lighthouses and the sea, so this card is really close to my heart (no pun intended!).

I really like how this card turned out -- it has lots of colour and energy and fun.  It's very different than some of the other holiday cards I've made lately and it really makes me smile.  This card will be saved for someone really special.

It used to be, when you wanted to put some glitter on your card, you had to get out the Prisma Glitter, glue, craft tray, extra paper and so on.  Don't get me wrong, I love my Prisma Glitter, but sometimes you need less muss and fuss.  That's where CTMH glitter paper comes in.  You can get it in a range of colours, you can cut it on the Cricut to create any shape, and you can glue it on to any paper.

Here is my card for today, featuring the almond colour glitter paper cut in the shape of snowflake.

Friday, December 6, 2013
My 8-year old son Charlie loves to make cards.  I love him and love sharing this activity with him.  He started by just putting paper, stamps and stickers together on a card.  But when he saw me using a card sketch from "Make it from Your Heart", one of CTMH's how-to books, he wanted to try.  He's gotten really good with his paper trimmer!

Following someone else's sketch didn't last long.  His creativity kicked into overdrive and he started creating his own sketches!!  And boy, did it make him proud to see Mom using HIS sketch to make cards.  So today, I chose to use one of his sketches in my 25 Day challenge.

I like nice, clean cards.  And with this stamp, "Illuminate", I especially wanted the image to stand out.  The dark background, the subtle stamped texture, the sponging and glitter all work together to make this stamp set ... and Charlie's sketch ... shine.

Here's Charlie's Sketch, if you want to give it a try:
